Seal Community School Farm

Inspiring Young Minds Through Farm Education

Seal Church of England Primary School is one of the few primary schools in Kent that offers a unique farm curriculum. Established in 2019 by Liz Mitchell, our Trust CEO, and Sara Spellman, the Outdoor Learning Lead, the school farm has become a cornerstone of both the school and the local community.

Students from all the schools within Inspire Academy Movement visit the farm regularly, thanks to our dedicated fleet of minibuses.

School Farm Curriculum

Children love visiting the farm. Our curriculum is engaging, educational, and fun, highlighting the importance of animal happiness and health. It also fosters respect for animals and nature, enhancing the overall learning experience.

At the core of our farm is a hands-on, experiential learning approach. Children are encouraged to engage in various aspects of farming, from animal care to farm maintenance and participation in sustainability initiatives.

They will learn valuable life skills such as empathy, teamwork, responsibility, and problem-solving, all essential for their personal development and future success. This makes the farm an integral part of their education.

These experiences extend beyond the school grounds, fostering lifelong connections. As our students’ progress to secondary school, they leave with a deep understanding of animal welfare and environmental stewardship, along with cherished memories and a sense of pride.

Our Farm Family

Our farm is home to a variety of animals, each playing a unique role in our eco system. Currently, we house four hives of bees, eight ducks, four goats, five pigs and 15 piglets, fifteen sheep, four rescue guinea pigs, one rescue rabbit, over forty chickens, and two tortoises. Our micro pig, Mr. Gippy, is currently in training to become a therapy pig and has already become a favourite among both our students and teachers!

In line with our mission for sustainability, our farm promotes high welfare standards. We support rare breeds while enhancing the landscape through tree and wildflower planting, bird box installation, and rainwater recycling.
